Being elsewhere, in a different environment, in another city, another country and observing people; just taking the time to watch
them live is for me a fascinating activity. Finding out what they have in common with people in my own society, around me, is an
exercise of curiosity where the search for what constitutes the very essence of the human being is of great importance to me.
Being elsewhere, in a different environment ... For example, in a coniferous forest. Watching them and taking the time to watch them grow is just as fascinating.
This tree society has many similarities with human society. The conifer becomes a symbol of expression, a comedian who plays the
role of a human character in all its essence.
On a paper of identical format and by the technique of monotype printing, I create a unique model of a conifer, sometimes in monochrome black
gesso and sometimes with a hint of color. This printing technique leaves little room for the elaborate study of the drawing and consequently
the design of the conifer is the result of a very spontaneous and free gesture. This gesture is very important in my works.
It suggests a moving vivacity, sometimes a dancing mobile entity, sometimes a whirlwind of energy that revolves around this entity.
Some monotypes are left in the raw state, that is to say, they have not been retouched or modified by addition of different medium,
they are the result of a first roll, at that moment, for me, the message is mature, affirmed. At other time, the addition of pastel
bold or dry, pure or diluted acrylic, ink or colored pencil helps to personalize this conifer, give it a proper identity according
to the role that I want him to play. Also, I like to leave some spots; not reveal everything, it is like putting on a mask,
it's the emotion you want to hide. In this work, the conifer is alone, well centered, omnipresent. I want to attribute to it all
the importance of the human dimension, without any distraction, so that it then becomes a unique, personalized entity.
With my works, I created a society of individuals. I like their presence. I feel in an inhabited, living world; a world of giants,
stronger than me. What touches me is the adaptability of the human to what surrounds him, his capacity for resistance, his resilience,
his need of others, his determination to live. A living force!
